Bucharest, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — Ciprian Ciucu of Romania's National Liberal Party won the Bucharest general mayoral election on Sunday, securing the capital's top post.

According to real-time data from the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania, C. Ciucu received 36.16% of the votes after the full counting of votes at all 1,289 polling stations.

More than 589,000 Bucharest residents cast their votes, with a turnout of 32.71% of registered voters.

Ciucu entered politics in 2000 and later moved into local administration, initially serving as a local councilor. Since 2020, he has served as the mayor of Bucharest's 6th District.

The mayoral seat became vacant in May after former Mayor Nikushor Dan was elected president. Chuku's term will run until 2028. –0–
