On Heroes of the Fatherland Day, December 9, the State Museum of the Defense of Moscow will open the project "Russian World. Return" at its renovated location—the Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia. The exhibition will run until September 27, 2026, and will highlight the military personnel and volunteers, civilians, doctors, priests, and volunteers serving in the conflict zones of Donbas and Novorossiya.

"The Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia is one of the capital's most important cultural venues, a true center of historical memory. On December 9, it reopened in its renovated form after renovations. The museum's permanent exhibition tells the story of heroes from various eras—from the Great Patriotic War to the present day. Visitors will see personal belongings, documents, and awards of those whose exploits became models of courage and heroism. And the new exhibition is dedicated to the fates of people who served in the special military operation zone," noted the Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Moscow Department of Culture.

Alexey Fursin.

The exhibition "Russian World. Return" will feature items from the collection of the State Defense Museum of Moscow. Visitors will also see memorial complexes dedicated to the heroes of Russia, paintings by Maxim Fayustov, and photographs by war correspondent Maria Lurye.

Museum visitors can also explore the permanent exhibition "Meeting the Heroes," which chronicles the exploits of Soviet and Russian military personnel, test pilots, sailors, and polar explorers. It offers the opportunity to join military personnel on the country's farthest frontiers, and to travel with heroic sailors from the Black Sea to the Barents Sea, learn how firefighters extinguished fires, and fly with test pilots.

Young guests can take part in the interactive "Profession: Hero" activity: try on a bulletproof vest and a firefighter's helmet, understand the workings of a radiation dosimeter, experience the challenges of working with a gas mask, and learn all about a real stabilizing parachute. The museum also offers an interactive program, "Frontline Roads," where children can playfully learn about elements of soldier life and service, as well as examples of Red Army weapons and equipment. They are also told about the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War.

You can sign up for paid tours and classes by calling 7 495 430-05-49 or at the museum ticket office. Museum tickets are available atlink, and to the exhibition “Russian World. Return” – Here.
