Moscow, December 8 (Xinhua) – Two people were killed in a collision between a freight train and a car in the Altai Krai region, Siberian transport police reported.

"This morning, a freight train collided with a Honda Fit at a railroad crossing near Lugovskoye station in the Altai Krai. The 74-year-old driver and 72-year-old passenger in the car died from their injuries," the statement read.

Officers from the Altai Linear Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Altai Krai have been dispatched to the scene. The Barnaul Transport Prosecutor's Office has initiated oversight activities to ensure compliance with railway safety legislation.
