JOHANNESBURG, December 6 (Xinhua) — At least 11 people were killed and 14 others were injured in a shooting that occurred Saturday morning at a hostel in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, local police said.

South African police spokeswoman Atlenda Mate said 10 people died at the scene in Saulsville, one died from gunshot wounds in hospital, and 14 others received medical treatment.

Among the victims were a three-year-old child and two teenagers, aged 12 and 16, added A. Mate.

According to police, at around 4:15 a.m. local time, three unknown individuals broke into the building and opened fire indiscriminately.

Authorities have not confirmed the motive for the attack. Police said an intensive investigation is currently underway. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant while efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
