Minsk, December 6 (Xinhua) — Justice guides countries in the Global South in their quest for equal participation in shaping the future of the world, Anastasia Savinykh, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS), said in an interview with Xinhua.

“In an era of profound transformation in international relations, when old models of global governance are undergoing fundamental revision, justice guides the actions of countries in the Global South as they strive for equal participation in shaping the future of the world,” she emphasized.

According to the analyst, the idea of justice in international relations directly resonates with the principles of the "Shanghai Spirit," including mutual trust, equality, and mutual benefit. "Justice is inextricably linked to the five principles of peaceful coexistence, which remain an unwavering guideline for the Global South: mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. These principles, formulated in the 1950s, are gaining new relevance today," the expert added. "Justice in this sense means abandoning unipolar models, the collapse of which we are witnessing today, and transitioning to a system in which the Global South not only reacts but sets the agenda," A. Savinykh stated.

In her opinion, the SCO summit in Tianjin was a landmark event that demonstrated the organization's true potential as a platform for building a multipolar and equitable world order. "China's Global Governance Initiative marked an important shift in Chinese foreign policy from regional strategies to a global vision. Belarus interprets the initiative as a constructive contribution to the formation of a more equitable and sustainable world order that aligns with our national and foreign policy priorities. At the summit, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko unequivocally reaffirmed our full and unwavering support for this initiative," A. Savinykh emphasized.

The expansion of BRICS over the past three years is clear evidence of the growing dynamism of the Global South, the agency's source believes. "In 2025, BRICS will be a key force in advancing the South-South cooperation agenda. The appeal of BRICS for countries in the Global South, in my view, lies in its unique combination of flexibility, the absence of rigid obligations, and a focus on pragmatic equality, which distinguishes the alliance from traditional associations and makes it a true space for like-minded nations," the expert said.

She added that, unlike Western-centric formats, BRICS focuses on the interests of developing countries. "For the Global South, BRICS is not just a tool, but a strategic asset, facilitating the transition to an equal world, where South-South cooperation becomes the engine of sustainable development," the analyst stated.

According to A. Savinykh, the significance of the SCO and the Belt and Road Initiative in promoting South-South cooperation is strategically decisive and highly effective, as these formats embody the natural and irreversible process of growing subjectivity in the Global South.

"In a context where traditional development models are facing a legitimacy crisis due to sanctions, technological divides, and mutual mistrust, these platforms offer an alternative path based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and a focus on tangible results. They not only complement each other, but transform geographic and economic ties into the foundation of a just world order, where the countries of the South themselves determine the trajectory of progress. The SCO, as a multilateral structure with an expanding agenda, plays the role of an anchor for stability and innovation," she concluded.
