Chengdu, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron held friendly exchanges on Friday at Dujiangyan, a town near Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Upon arrival, Macron and his wife, Brigitte, were warmly welcomed by Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan. Welcoming the couple to Sichuan, known to the Chinese as the "blessed land," Xi Jinping recalled his visit to the Hautes-Pyrénées department last year, which took place at Macron's invitation. He expressed confidence that Macron's current visit would help deepen his understanding of China.

Xi Jinping noted that the Dujiangyan structure is the only ancient irrigation system in the world that is still in operation today, as well as one of the first successful practices of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, adding that the process of its construction fully reflects the spirit of continuous self-improvement of the Chinese nation, as well as its fearlessness in the face of difficulties and the courage to move forward. -0-
