URUMQI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) — In the first 10 months of this year, exports of seedlings and flowers from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) reached 36,000 tons, worth 697 million yuan, up 406.1 percent and 464.2 percent year-on-year, respectively, according to the customs office of Urumqi, the capital of the region.
As Zhou Tingjun, a representative of a seed company in Xinjiang, noted, this year the company completed the relevant registration procedure to obtain export rights and has now reached an agreement with a client on plans to export a batch of seeds to Tajikistan.
Since the beginning of this year, seedlings and flowers have become a new growth point for Xinjiang's special agricultural exports. Urumqi Customs views fieldwork and processing as key quality control elements, implementing standardized oversight of the entire production process at enterprises, from cultivation to processing, and closely monitoring quarantine facilities, which are a focus both domestically and internationally.
"Based on the needs of enterprises and the expansion of varietal diversity, we explain to companies in advance the technical trade barriers and quarantine requirements of importing countries to ensure that the exported seedlings and flowers meet international standards and create a strong brand," said Liu Xiong, a customs official at Urumqi.
Currently, there are a total of 46 enterprises in Xinjiang that are engaged in growing seedlings and flowers and have the right to export. -0-
