BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have issued guidelines aimed at strengthening data-related disciplines and cultivating digital talents to enhance the role of data as an innovation driver in developing new productive forces.

The document, issued by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) jointly with four other government departments, outlines 12 tasks in four key areas, focusing on discipline development, professional training, academic research, and cooperation between enterprises, universities, research institutes, and end users.

According to the document, China will support relevant institutions, with the participation of data processing enterprises and research institutes, to build data-related disciplines such as data science and engineering, as well as digital economy and governance.

Vocational schools are encouraged to make timely and dynamic adjustments to their disciplines in response to industry development needs, and explore the possibility of creating market-oriented specializations such as data collection and cleaning, data labeling, data compliance, and data processing.

China will also encourage local governments to establish clusters based on industrial parks and support leading enterprises, top colleges and vocational institutions to jointly build cross-regional cooperation communities that integrate industrial development and data-related education, the document said. -0-
