Islamabad, December 3 (Xinhua) — At least three police officers were killed and one was injured on Wednesday when a police vehicle was blown up in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, local police said.
A police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, told Xinhua that the police unit was on patrol at the time of the incident.
Unknown terrorists threw a hand grenade at the police and opened fire on them, killing three police officers.
Police, security forces and rescue teams arrived at the scene and transported the bodies of the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.
It was previously reported that the police car exploded due to a bomb. However, police confirmed that a hand grenade was used and that the car was hit with gunfire.
Security forces and police cordoned off the area and began a search operation.
