Beijing, December 3 (Xinhua) — The one-China principle serves as the political foundation and fundamental prerequisite for the development of relations between China and Honduras. Developing bilateral ties is in the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and their peoples, and separatist efforts to achieve "Taiwan independence" are doomed to failure. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian at a regular briefing on Wednesday.
A Chinese diplomat made the statement in response to reports from a Taiwanese official about contacts with two Honduran presidential candidates.
Lin Jian noted that over the past two years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, relations between China and Honduras have developed rapidly, and cooperation in various fields has produced fruitful results.
The official representative noted that the construction of agricultural technical schools with Chinese assistance had been completed, companies from the two countries had signed contracts for the purchase of over 10,000 tons of whiteleg shrimp, and Honduran tobacco had entered the Chinese market.
In 2024, Honduran coffee imports to China increased 14-fold year-on-year, he continued, adding that China donated coffee greenhouses and planting tools to Honduras, as well as sent several shipments of humanitarian aid when the country was hit by hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters.
According to Lin Jian, cooperation in areas such as human resource training, government scholarships and tourism will significantly enhance Honduras' long-term development potential.
“These achievements fully demonstrate that bilateral relations bring tangible benefits to the people of Honduras and meet the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and their peoples,” the official representative emphasized.
“Separatist activities to achieve ‘Taiwan independence’ run counter to the historical trend and are doomed to failure,” Lin Jian concluded. –0–
