BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday sent congratulations to Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee general secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Xi Jinping emphasized that the LPRP has united the Lao people and led them through persistent struggles to overcome difficulties, and has also achieved encouraging success in reform and opening up. The well-being of the Lao people is steadily improving, and the country's international and regional influence has significantly increased, he noted.
As a comrade and brother, China sincerely welcomes this progress, Xi Jinping added. China firmly believes that Laos will continue to follow a socialist path suited to its national conditions, successfully host the upcoming 12th Congress of the People's Revolutionary Party of Laos, and continually open up new prospects for the development of the Party and the state, he stated.
Thongloun Sisoulith visited China in September on a successful visit, during which a new strategic consensus was reached on deepening the construction of a China-Laos community with a shared future, Xi Jinping emphasized.
China consistently regards Laos as a priority in its diplomacy toward neighboring countries, the Chinese president stated. Beijing stands ready to work with Vientiane to seize the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to develop traditional friendship, strengthen solidarity and cooperation, and deepen and materialize China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperation in the new era, so as to bring greater benefits to the two peoples and make greater contributions to peace and development in the region and the world at large, he said.
