HANGZHOU, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — The annual container throughput of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in east China's Zhejiang Province exceeded 40 million TEUs for the first time on Tuesday.

According to the Zhejiang Seaport Group, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan has ranked first in the world in annual cargo throughput for 16 consecutive years. Despite its relatively late entry into container shipping, its volume is growing rapidly.

Statistics show that the port's annual container throughput surpassed 20 million TEU for the first time in 2015 and exceeded 40 million TEU for the first time this year. This figure increased from 10 million to 20 million TEU in seven years, from 20 million to 30 million TEU in six years, and from 30 million to 40 million TEU in just four years. The port's ability to serve national strategies, regional development, and clients worldwide is continually expanding.

Currently, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan operates over 300 container shipping routes, connecting over 600 ports in over 200 countries and regions. It has over 210 berths for vessels over 10,000 tons, including over 135 berths for vessels of 50,000 tons and above, making it one of the world's leading ports with the largest number of large and ultra-large deepwater berths.

In recent years, Zhejiang Province, an economically developed province on China's east coast, has unveiled a series of policies aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and global influence of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. -0-
