BEIJING, December 1 (Xinhua) — The SCO International Kunming Marathon 2025 (SCO Kunming Marathon 2025) took place on Sunday in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, southwest China. This year marked the 10th edition of the event.

According to the Zhongguo Xinwenshe news portal, approximately 26,000 runners from more than 20 countries and regions took part in the marathon, a record number of participants in its history. The route passed through the city's main landmarks.

The vibrant sporting event included races of various distances: a full marathon and a half marathon.

Ultimately, Ethiopian runners won the men's and women's full marathon titles. In the half marathon, Chinese athletes Yang Shaohui and Li Qingqing won the men's and women's titles, respectively.

The event also involved more than 3,300 volunteers and more than 700 medical workers and rescue runners providing first aid.

The event was traditionally organized by the people's governments of Yunnan Province and Kunming City, the Sports Administration and the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, together with the SCO Secretariat.

The first SCO Kunming International Marathon took place on December 17, 2016. The event is held annually and plays a vital role in promoting SCO humanitarian exchanges.
