Colombo, November 30 (Xinhua) — As of 6:00 p.m. Sunday local time, the death toll from severe weather in Sri Lanka has reached 334, according to the Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre.
According to the center, at least 370 people are missing. Heavy rains, floods, and landslides have affected a total of 1,118,929 people from 309,607 households.
In view of the crisis situation, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education has announced that all universities, higher education institutions and vocational training centres under its jurisdiction will suspend academic activities until December 8.
The decision was made due to widespread transport disruptions, damaged infrastructure and safety threats posed by ongoing adverse weather conditions. –0–
