Pyongyang, November 30 (Xinhua) — The Korean People's Army (KPA) Air Force will receive new strategic military assets and be assigned a new important responsibility, Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, announced on Friday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Sunday.
Kim Jong-un attended celebrations held on Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the KPA Air Force, the statement said.
The DPRK Supreme Leader noted that the WPK and the country's expectations for the Air Force, which "will play an important role in implementing measures to deter a nuclear war," are very high, adding that the Air Force "must resolutely repel and control all kinds of espionage activities and possible military provocations by enemies aiming to encroach on the DPRK's sovereign airspace with overwhelming spiritual strength and offensive spirit."
According to KCNA, the North Korean leader also watched the demonstration flight and presented the North Korean Air Force with the Order of Kim Jong Il, the highest award in the DPRK. –0–
