HONG KONG, November 28 (Xinhua) — Firefighting and search and rescue operations at the Hongfuyuan residential complex in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) were completed at 10:18 a.m. local time on Friday, according to a press conference held by the SAR administration at approximately 3:00 p.m. that day.
The death toll from the fire has now reached 128. It's possible that police may discover more bodies when they arrive at the scene to investigate the circumstances and cause of the tragedy, said Deng Bing-qiang, Director of Security for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) at a press conference, adding that an estimated 200 people are still missing.
Yang Enjian, Chief of the Fire Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), noted that 391 fire engines, 185 ambulances, and 2,311 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire, of which 12 were injured and one died. -0-
