KAMPALA, November 28 (Xinhua) — At least 11 children have died from measles in Napak County in northeastern Uganda, where an outbreak was declared two weeks ago, the country's Ministry of Health announced on Thursday.

The agency reported 74 cases and 11 deaths in pastoralist communities in 12 Napaka sub-counties.

On November 15, a patient with suspected measles was admitted to the pediatric ward of Matani Hospital. On November 19, the Ugandan Ministry of Health confirmed the outbreak.

Risk factors identified by the ministry include low measles immunization coverage in the worst-affected areas, poor housing conditions, overcrowded homes, and high levels of malnutrition among children under five.

Last year, the agency reported a measles outbreak in 56 districts of Uganda. –0–
