JAKARTA, November 27 (Xinhua) — Flash floods and landslides that hit several districts and towns in Indonesia's North Sumatra province have killed 29 people, Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, head of the emergency, equipment and logistics department of the provincial disaster management and mitigation agency, said on Thursday.
According to her, 67 people were also injured and nine more were missing as a result of the natural disasters.
"The total number of casualties stands at 29, with another nine missing. The number could rise as risk assessments are still underway," she told Xinhua by telephone.
The natural disasters destroyed more than 400 homes, several bridges, and various public infrastructure. According to her, more than 7,000 residents were forced to flee their homes and seek shelter.
A state of emergency has been declared in the districts of Mandailingnatal, South Tapanuli and North Tapanuli, she added. –0–
