HONG KONG, November 28 (Xinhua) — The death toll from a major fire that broke out at the Hongfuyuan residential complex in Dabu County, Taipo, in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has risen to 83 as of 12:00 a.m. Friday, the HKSAR Fire Department said.

Around 11:00 pm on Thursday, the fire broke out with renewed vigor on the upper floors of one of the complex's high-rise buildings.

Firefighters have now reached the middle floors of the building and are conducting a search and rescue operation there. The department stated that they are continuing to exert maximum efforts to extinguish the fire on the remaining floors and conduct rescue operations.
