Beijing, November 27 (Xinhua) — Eleven people suspected of operating illegal gambling operations under the guise of lotteries have been extradited to China from Malaysia. Police officers from Hainan Province (southern China) brought them home, according to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

The suspects, hiding abroad, had been running illegal lotteries for a long time. Using social media and offline promotions, the organized crime group members recruited agents in China and lured compatriots into illegal gambling with promises of high profits. The case involved particularly large amounts of money, according to an official statement.

After receiving the necessary evidence and information regarding the criminal activity, Hainan police dispatched a task force to Malaysia to carry out law enforcement activities. With the assistance of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, the Malaysian police handed over the suspects to the Chinese authorities at Kuala Lumpur Airport.

As it turned out, thanks to this case, Hainan law enforcement officers managed to identify and neutralize two more groups engaged in the same type of criminal activity.

The Chinese Ministry of Security stated that Chinese police will ruthlessly combat gambling-related crimes and will continue to deepen international cooperation with law enforcement agencies in various countries to ensure that all offenders are apprehended and brought to justice. -0-
