Beijing, November 27 (Xinhua) — China has serious concerns about certain provisions of the Malaysia-US countertrade agreement, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Thursday.
Responding to a media question, the ministry's official representative noted that while China welcomes Malaysia's moves to resolve differences with other countries through trade agreements, any such agreements should not hinder the development of global trade and regional cooperation, and should not harm China's interests.
The official representative made the statement following bilateral contacts on this issue between representatives of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia, which took place on November 25 in Beijing.
China called on Malaysia to consider its long-term interests and properly handle the issue, the official added.
According to him, the Malaysian side provided detailed clarifications on all points of concern to China. As the official representative noted, Malaysia also stated that it values its long-term partnership with China and is ready to further deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
