Beijing, November 27 (Xinhua) — From November 24, 2025 to January 3, 2026, the city of Hunchun in Northeast China's Jilin Province will offer Russian tourists consumer coupons worth a total of 500,000 yuan (approximately $70,600), according to the official WeChat account of the Tumenjiang Bao newspaper.
Based on the daily number of people entering China from Russia through the Hunchun checkpoint, a total of 25,000 paper consumer coupons have been issued. Each coupons provides a 20 yuan discount on purchases over 100 yuan. They can be used at many shopping malls and tourist areas throughout the city.
At the passenger service counters at the Hunchun checkpoint, Russian tourists can obtain these consumer coupons upon presentation of their passports, as well as brochures explaining tax refunds upon exiting the country. Interpreters from travel agencies will also issue these coupons to Russian travelers and explain the rules for their use.
As noted by the city's Commerce Department, paper consumer coupons, printed in both Russian and Chinese, facilitate offline payments for Russian tourists in China.
China has introduced a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens from September 15, 2025, to September 14, 2026. Russian citizens holding regular passports can visit China visa-free for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, exchanging visits, and transit purposes, provided their stay in China does not exceed 30 days.
In the two months since the introduction of this innovation, many regions of China, including Hunchun, have seen a significant increase in tourist flow from Russia. -0-
