The Ekaterina shaft-boring machine has created 20 tunnel-side structures in the capital. It is currently being used to construct the fifth shaft at the future Dostoyevskaya metro station on the Circle Line. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction. Vladimir Efimov.
"The Ekaterina shaft-boring machine used to construct the new ventilation shaft is one of the most proven vertical machines in Moscow. This is its 21st shaft in the Moscow Metro. Previously, it built seven ventilation shafts on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line and 12 ventilation chamber shafts, drainage systems, and cable collectors on the Big Circle Line, as well as a shaft on Dostoyevskaya, creating a total of over a kilometer of vertical tunnels," noted Vladimir Efimov.
Maxim Gaman, CEO of JSC Mosinzhproekt, explained that the complex was assembled using modular technology. Specialists used specialized equipment and cranes to assemble the prefabricated components delivered to the site. They were then connected to the control systems and underwent pre-commissioning testing.
"The use of the Ekaterina significantly simplifies the workflow for metro builders—mechanized excavation is carried out simultaneously with the installation of permanent lining, which reduces labor costs, shortens construction time, and improves the accuracy and safety of the work," explained Maxim Gaman.
The shaft-boring machine will excavate the soil using a drum-type milling machine with a cutting tool, as well as install 44 permanent and three temporary reinforced concrete rings, each 6.4 meters in diameter and one meter high. After completion of the excavation, the "Ekaterina" will be dismantled and transported to a storage site. Construction workers will begin constructing the ventilation chamber and tunnel, which will form part of the future station complex.
Earlier, Sergei Sobyanin announced the readiness of the Dostoyevskaya station on the Circle Line of the metro35 percent.
Dostoyevskaya, located between Novoslobodskaya and Prospekt Mira, will be the 13th station on the Circle Line. It is being built on the border of the Meshchansky and Tverskoy districts of the Central Administrative Okrug, at the intersection of Samotechnaya and Durova Streets. Once operational, the new station will improve accessibility to the Meshchansky, Tverskoy, and Maryina Roshcha districts, home to over 200,000 people.
