LOS ANGELES, November 25 (Xinhua) — Five people, including three children, were killed and two others were injured in a traffic accident in the U.S. state of Colorado, local authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. local time Monday near Franktown, about 50 kilometers south of Denver, according to a statement from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

According to the CSP, the driver of the Toyota lost control. The vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, returned to the roadway, then crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Ford sedan. The Toyota continued in the oncoming lane and crashed into the Ford pickup truck.

The drivers of the Toyota and Ford sedan died at the scene. According to CSP, three of the five children in the sedan also died, and the other two were airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said the cause of the driver's loss of control remains under investigation. The Toyota was reported missing for theft an hour before the crash, CSP said. –0–
