BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with King Tupou VI of Tonga in Beijing on Wednesday.
Zhao Leji stated that China is willing to work with Tonga to implement the important agreements reached by the two heads of state, provide firm support to each other on issues affecting their core interests, promote high-quality mutually beneficial cooperation, deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote the sustainable, healthy, and stable development of bilateral relations.
The NPC is willing to strengthen multi-level and multi-faceted exchanges and cooperation with the Tongan parliament, providing legal guarantees for practical cooperation between the two countries, Zhao Leji added.
For his part, King Tupou VI of Tonga noted the close and strong friendly relations between Tonga and China. He emphasized that Tonga firmly adheres to the one-China policy and intends to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, and continuously expand the comprehensive strategic partnership between Tonga and China.
