NEW YORK, November 26 (Xinhua) — China and the United States can overcome differences and jointly write a new chapter in their friendly relations and cooperation, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng said on Tuesday.

In a video speech at the Gulin Forum 2025, Xie Feng said Gulin's story is a shining example of how "the hope for China-US relations lies in the people, their foundation lies in our societies, their future depends on the youth, and their vitality comes from subnational exchanges."

The "Friends of Gulin," a group of descendants of American families who once lived in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in southeastern China, have been traveling in recent years to trace the stories of their ancestors, Xie Feng noted.

He said Gulin's century-old history is being reenergized through events such as the 2025 Chinese-American Youth Choral Week "Connect with Gulin" and the "Gulin Forum."

“These connections that have transcended time and space continue to inspire us to this day, reminding us that despite all our differences in history, culture, social system, and development path, we share a common desire for friendship,” the ambassador said.

He added that China and the United States bear a special and important responsibility for world peace, stability and prosperity, and called on both sides to adhere to the principle of non-conflict and non-confrontation.

"Based on this, we must fulfill our responsibilities as major countries, abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, firmly uphold the international order established after World War II, support genuine multilateralism, and join forces to solve international and regional problems, as well as tasks such as the fight against terrorism," Xie Feng said.

Next year, China will host the APEC Leaders' Meeting, and the United States will host the G20 summit. "We must support each other, advance dialogue on global governance, and strive to achieve greater and concrete results for the benefit of our two countries and the entire world," the Chinese ambassador emphasized.
