The growth points for global oil consumption are in the Asia-Pacific region, said Igor Sechin, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission on Fuel and Energy Sector Development Strategy and Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft Oil Company.

"Forecasts from leading global analytical agencies indicate that China's oil imports could increase by 1.4 million barrels per day by 2030. According to the IEA, oil demand in neighboring India should increase by 2.5 million barrels per day over the next ten years," Sechin said at the opening of the 7th Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum in Beijing.

One of the key drivers of oil demand is the petrochemical sector, noted Igor Sechin.

"China has become the world's largest exporter of petrochemicals. Oxford University estimates that this sector will increase the country's oil consumption by over 1 million barrels per day by 2030," he added.
