UN, November 25 /Xinhua/ – Statehood is the right of the Palestinians, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Tuesday, reiterating his call for an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
In a statement delivered by the head of the UN Secretary-General's Office, Courtney Rattray, at a special meeting to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, A. Guterres recalled the "simple truth" that "the Palestinian people have the right to dignity, justice and self-determination."
He called for “irreversible progress towards the realization of a two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, in which Israel and Palestine coexist in peace and security within their protected and recognized borders based on the 1967 lines, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.”
Noting that the violations of Palestinian rights over the past two years have “exceeded all bounds of comprehension,” A. Guterres emphasized that the ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025 offers a glimmer of hope, and the adoption of a resolution on the Gaza Strip by the UN Security Council is an important step in strengthening this hope.
The UN Secretary-General called on all parties to fully comply with the provisions of the resolution and to move immediately to the next stage, since, as he pointed out, “it is crucial to translate this diplomatic momentum into concrete and much-needed progress on the ground.” –0–
