Beijing, November 24 (Xinhua) — China calls on Japan to clarify its so-called "consistent position" on the Taiwan issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Monday. She emphasized that if Japan merely vaguely reiterates its unchangeable position while constantly crossing red lines in its actions, such repetition is nothing more than empty words and undermines the one-China principle.
Mao Ning made the statement at a daily press conference after the Japanese side said during the G20 summit that China's claim that Japan had changed its position on the Taiwan issue was groundless and that the Japanese side had repeatedly clarified its consistent position to China.
Noting that the one-China principle is the unshakable consensus of the international community, Mao Ning said China calls on the Japanese side to take China's grave concerns seriously, genuinely rethink and correct its mistakes, and fulfill its commitments to China with concrete actions.
Japan should refrain from making mistakes and, moreover, ensure that its actions match its words, the Chinese diplomat said. -0-
