Moscow, November 24 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two presidents discussed bilateral cooperation, as well as the Ukrainian conflict and American proposals for its resolution, the Kremlin press service reported.
"Current issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, with an emphasis on further expansion of trade and investment ties and the implementation of strategically important energy projects," the Kremlin website said.
During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the situation around Ukraine, including “in the context of American proposals for a peaceful settlement.”
Vladimir Putin noted that "these proposals, in the version we have seen, are consistent with the discussions at the Russian-American summit in Alaska and, in principle, could form the basis for a final peace settlement." Russia's interest in a political and diplomatic resolution of the Ukrainian crisis was reaffirmed.
R. T. Erdogan, for his part, declared his intention to facilitate the negotiation process, as well as his readiness to provide a platform for meetings in Istanbul. –0–
