Beijing, November 24 (Xinhua) — The grand opening of a unique exhibition, "Maya Plisetskaya – Pole of Magic," will take place in Beijing on Tuesday. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya. This was announced in a statement posted on the official WeChat account of the Russian Cultural Center (RCC) in Beijing.

The exhibition was organized by the A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum in collaboration with the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing and the Beijing Union of Artists and Writers.

The exhibition will transport visitors to the world of a ballet genius. Over 80 digitized exhibits from the Bakhrushin Museum's rich collections—photographs, sketches, posters, and lithographs—will reveal the multifaceted phenomenon of M. Plisetskaya.

The exhibition is divided into two parts: the first will tell the story of her stellar career on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in her immortal roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and The Fountain of Bakhchisarai; the second will present her as a muse who inspired such titans as choreographer Maurice Béjart, couturier Pierre Cardin, and artist Marc Chagall.

Special attention will be given to the legendary ballet, created especially for M. Plisetskaya, “Carmen Suite”.

As a reminder, November 20, 2025, marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of the USSR and ballerina Maria Plisetskaya. She was born in 1925 and became prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater in 1960. -0-
