Dushanbe, November 23 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, called on Japan to quickly rethink history and correct its mistakes, rather than stubbornly cling to the wrong path.
Wang Yi made the remarks in a media interview after concluding his visit to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where he held strategic dialogues with the foreign ministers of these countries from November 19 to 22.
"If Japan persists in its delusions and continues to make the same mistakes, all countries and peoples who advocate justice have the right to reconsider Japan's historical crimes and the responsibility to resolutely prevent the resurgence of Japanese militarism," Wang Yi said.
Noting that strong mutual support on key interests is an integral part of the China-Central Asian community with a shared future, Wang Yi said China is ready to be a reliable supporter and strong defender of peace, stability, and development in Central Asia. China opposes any interference in the internal affairs of Central Asian countries and will never allow anyone to provoke divisions or create chaos, he emphasized.
Wang Yi said he had briefed the three countries' foreign ministers on China's principled position on the Taiwan issue and exposed the current Japanese leader's wrong words and actions, which openly violate China's core interests and challenge the post-World War II international order.
He added that Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan have openly emphasized that there is only one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of it. They oppose "Taiwan independence" in any form and firmly support all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification.
Noting that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Wang Yi emphasized that the return of Taiwan, occupied by Japan at the time, to China was enshrined in a number of international documents, such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender.
“This is an undeniable achievement of victory in World War II and an international obligation that Japan, as a defeated country, must continue to honor,” he added.
He said that in this important year, Japan should first and foremost reexamine its history of invading and colonizing Taiwan, thoroughly rethink its war crimes, adhere to the rules, and act with restraint on Taiwan and history issues.
It is shocking that the current Japanese leader is openly sending the wrong signal about attempting military intervention in the Taiwan issue – saying what cannot be said and crossing a red line that cannot be touched, Wang Yi noted.
He said China must give a resolute response, not only to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also to defend the achievements of World War II, won with blood and the cost of many lives, and to uphold international justice.
According to him, the Chinese people love peace and are friendly to their neighbors. However, on key issues of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, they will never compromise or make concessions.
The Japanese government has made commitments on the Taiwan issue, which are enshrined in the four Sino-Japanese political documents, Wang Yi recalled. These commitments leave no room for ambiguity or distortion, he added, emphasizing that regardless of which party or leader is in power in Japan, these commitments must be observed.
