Dushanbe, November 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for new progress in developing the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era during the first strategic dialogue with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin on Saturday.

The parties held an in-depth discussion on the implementation of the consensus reached by the heads of state and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation, reached broad agreement, and jointly launched a mechanism for strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of China and Tajikistan.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that China and Tajikistan are good friends and reliable partners, connected by shared mountains and rivers. Under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, bilateral relations are continuously advancing to new heights.

Recalling that the two heads of state met twice this year and outlined new plans for developing relations between the countries, the Chinese Foreign Minister stated that China is ready to work with Tajikistan, guided by the consensus of the two countries' leaders, to consider and advance bilateral relations from a strategic perspective, continue the friendship from generation to generation, and promote high-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Wang Yi reported on the results of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, emphasizing that the scientific development and consistent implementation of five-year plans are an important experience of the CPC in state governance and an important political advantage of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

China will continue to support Tajikistan in pursuing a development path suited to its own national conditions and in taking effective measures to ensure national security and development, while firmly opposing any external interference in the country's internal affairs, Wang Yi said.

Regardless of changes in the international situation, China will remain a reliable and loyal partner for Tajikistan, the diplomat emphasized, expressing gratitude to Tajikistan for its strong support on issues affecting China's core interests, including the Taiwan issue.

According to the minister, China will never allow right-wing forces in Japan to turn back the wheel of history, will not tolerate outside interference in the Taiwan issue, and will not allow the resurgence of Japanese militarism. China will work with all parties to uphold the international consensus on the one-China principle and jointly defend the hard-won victories of World War II, Wang Yi emphasized.

He noted that the two countries need to continue expanding trade and investment and fully utilize mechanisms such as the China-Tajik Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation. China, the minister continued, is ready to increase imports of high-quality agricultural products from Tajikistan and encourage Chinese enterprises with the necessary potential to invest in Tajikistan.

Wang Yi called on both sides to make full use of various platforms, including the Confucius Institute and the Lu Ban Workshop, and to accelerate the establishment of cultural centers in both countries. He also called on both sides to intensify local cooperation, enhance exchanges between sister cities, and join efforts to deepen Chinese-Tajik friendship.

Noting that China and Tajikistan are strategic partners who share both security and risks, Wang Yi pointed out that both sides should jointly overcome various challenges, implement the memorandum of understanding on jointly advancing cooperation within the framework of the Global Security Initiative, carry out reliable bilateral joint patrols, prevent the infiltration and spread of terrorist forces, and build a solid security barrier for the development of both countries.

Wang Yi said that China supports Tajikistan in enhancing its role in the UN and other multilateral structures, and looks forward to working with Tajikistan to jointly implement the four major global initiatives, support the international system with the UN as the core, and strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China-Central Asia cooperation mechanism.

S. Mukhriddin, for his part, noted that Tajikistan and China are friendly neighbors and sincere friends, whose bilateral relations are invariably based on mutual understanding, trust, and support. He stated that, under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, Tajik-Chinese relations maintain positive momentum, with active interstate cooperation in various fields.

S. Mukhriddin expressed gratitude to China for its long-term valuable support for Tajikistan's development and stated that the Tajik side expects to work together with China to comprehensively implement the important agreements reached between the heads of state of the two countries, establish closer contacts at all levels, promote the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, and environmentally friendly mining, and expand humanitarian exchanges to bring even greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The Tajik side consistently adheres to the one-China principle, firmly supports China's justified position on the Taiwan issue, as well as China's determined efforts to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to achieve the country's reunification, S. Mukhriddin emphasized.

The diplomats also exchanged views on Afghanistan. Wang Yi stated that Afghanistan is a shared neighbor for China and Tajikistan, and China intends to continue strengthening coordination with Tajikistan on the Afghan issue to promote peace and stability in the region and support the reconstruction process in Afghanistan.

Following the talks, a joint statement was published on the results of the first strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of China and Tajikistan. –0–
