BELEM, Brazil, November 21 (Xinhua) — A fire broke out Thursday in one of the pavilions of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in the Brazilian city of Belem. Firefighters organized an evacuation, local authorities said.
According to organizers, the incident occurred in the Blue Zone, where international stands and official negotiation rooms are located.
Brazilian Tourism Minister Celso Sabinho reported that the fire, which broke out around 2:00 PM local time, was contained within about half an hour. There are no reports of injuries yet.
Para State Governor Helder Barbalho told local media that emergency crews are currently looking into two possible causes of the incident: a generator malfunction or a short circuit in one of the stands. –0–
