Shenzhen, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese tech giant Huawei will launch a wheelchair model for sports and health promotion in its smart wearable devices this month, making it accessible for wheelchair users.
Huawei's President of Consumer Marketing and Sales, Zhu Ping, said he was inspired by Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed for this innovation.
"After thorough research, we developed this function to scientifically evaluate the activity of wheelchair users by recording the number of kicks required to move the wheelchair, the duration of its movement, and the person's calorie consumption, thus providing a comprehensive quantitative assessment of the users' physical activity," he told Xinhua.
Huawei's global shipments of wearable devices exceeded 200 million units this year, placing the company first in the first half of the year by shipment volume and leading the market in more than 20 countries and regions. Analysts attribute this to Huawei's innovative products, steady market share growth, and localization, which propelled the brand to 39th place in the Kantar BrandZ 2025 ranking.
“The growth is driven by global consumer confidence,” Zhu Ping emphasized.
The company places a particular emphasis on wearables and ecosystem apps, launching a new watch in Paris and organizing events in several cities around the world. It also collaborates with over 150 research institutions worldwide, providing over 70 types of data for healthcare research to date.
Looking to the future, Zhu Ping said Huawei will "walk alongside users around the world" under its "Now Yours" brand. "Consumer trust is our most valuable asset. We strive to truly unite people from different cultures," he added. -0-
