XICHANG, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — The Long March-3B carrier rocket blasted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 6:55 p.m. Friday, successfully sending the Shiyan-21 experimental communications satellite into its designated orbit.

This satellite will be primarily used to provide services in areas such as satellite communications, radio, television and data transmission, as well as to conduct related technical testing and verification.

This flight was the 609th for the Long March series of launch vehicles. -0-
