Moscow, November 21 /Xinhua/ — The opening of the Russian-Chinese Education Festival took place on Thursday at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS. Over the course of three days, participants will discuss expanding educational cooperation, effective models for integrating science and education, and prospects for digital transformation.

Chinese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui sent a congratulatory message at the opening of the event. He emphasized that China and Russia have established effective mechanisms for bilateral exchanges in the field of education, including the China-Russia Commission on Humanitarian Cooperation and its Subcommittee on Educational Cooperation. Thanks to joint efforts, educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia have yielded impressive results.

Speaking at the ceremony as the event's organizer, Andrey Voronin, Vice Rector for Education at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS, stated that the festival is, above all, a vibrant dialogue between cultures. He added that master classes in calligraphy, tea ceremony, and traditional crafts will provide an excellent opportunity to better understand and experience the rich heritage of the peoples of Russia and China.

Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov stated in a video speech that the number of Chinese students at Russian universities has nearly doubled over the past five years, reaching 56,000 last year. More and more Russian applicants are choosing China for higher education, and last year, approximately 21,000 Russian citizens studied in China, the minister noted.

At the plenary session "Strategic Partnership between Russia and China – Expanding Scientific and Educational Cooperation," held as part of the festival, Russian and Chinese education experts shared the two countries' achievements in academic collaboration.

"Shenzhen MSU-BPI University, together with Beijing Institute of Technology and Moscow State University, has established four research centers in the field of natural sciences and technology, as well as eight of its own innovation platforms aimed at implementing scientific and technological achievements in practical activities," noted Wan Meina, Deputy Vice-Rector of Shenzhen MSU-BPI University.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky emphasized that the next two years should be as effective as possible and bring real benefits to the peoples of Russia and China, giving new impetus to the development of the Russian education system and allowing it to adopt best Chinese practices.

The festival was organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Interobrazovanie" and the National University of Science and Technology "MISIS".
