Almaty, November 20 (Xinhua) — The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will provide a $5.3 million grant to modernize irrigation in Kazakhstan, the press service of the country's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced on Wednesday.
The department announced that the financial agreement for the project "Development of a Business Ecosystem for Sustainable Irrigation in Kazakhstan" was signed by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan Katarzyna Wawiernia, and Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) Ruslan Dalenov.
The project is designed to last several years and includes the creation of a national water resources information system, the implementation of forecasting and optimal water distribution tools, the establishment of regional centers for modern irrigation, the upgrading of specialist qualifications, and the implementation of water-saving technologies.
The EDB was created to promote economic growth and expand trade and economic ties between some of the CIS member countries that later formed the Eurasian Economic Union. –0–
