Ürümqi, November 20 (Xinhua) — As of November 19, the number of people entering and leaving the China-Kazakhstan International Boundary Cooperation Center "Khorgos" reached 9.05 million, an increase of 40.3 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Khorgos border checkpoint.
Currently, thanks to measures to simplify customs clearance procedures, the above-mentioned center, located in the city of Horgos in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR, Northwest China), has an average of more than 28,000 people entering and exiting it daily, with the maximum passenger flow reaching 44,000 people per day.
The China-Kazakhstan International Cross-Border Cooperation Center "Khorgos," which opened in April 2012, operates in both China and Kazakhstan. On the Chinese side, the center houses over 2,000 retail outlets and over 200 duty-free businesses, selling over 1,000 goods from over 40 countries.
According to experts, the creation of the center will help simplify cross-border trade and reduce trade barriers between China and Kazakhstan. -0-
