CHANGCHUN, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — The 11th Northeast Asia Tourism Forum, titled "Ecotourism and Sustainable Development: A Shared Vision for Northeast Asia," was held in Hunchun, northeast China's Jilin Province, on Tuesday under the Greater Tumen Initiative.

Representatives from China, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, and Russia participated in the event. They discussed topics such as deepening cross-border cooperation in implementing cultural tourism projects, among others.

At the forum's opening ceremony, Jin Yuhui, a member of the Jilin Provincial Government's leadership group, noted that Jilin Province is rich in unique ecotourism resources. In recent years, provincial authorities have been actively working to develop large tourism industry clusters through deep integration and development of culture and tourism, and are striving to create world-class tourist destinations, while actively deepening exchanges and cooperation with Northeast Asian countries.

During the forum, government officials, experts, scholars, and tourism industry representatives from the four countries delivered speeches on topics such as the characteristics and advantages of tourism products in their countries, recommendations for ecotourism and sustainable development, and the development of tourism projects within the framework of the "Greater Tumen Initiative."

"This forum is a platform for promoting ecotourism and tourism development in Northeast Asia. In the future, we will collaborate with government agencies to develop more detailed programs to facilitate the implementation of relevant cooperation projects," said Li Hu Meng, head of the Greater Tumen Initiative Secretariat of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Following the forum, a number of memorandums and framework agreements on cooperation in the field of tourism were signed between China and Russia, as well as China and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Greater Tumen Initiative is an intergovernmental cooperation mechanism initiated and supported by UNDP, comprising China, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, and Russia. It aims to strengthen cooperation in Northeast Asia in transport, energy, tourism, investment, and environmental protection. The current forum was jointly organized by the UNDP Greater Tumen Initiative Secretariat and the Jilin Provincial Administration of Culture and Tourism. -0-
