SANYA, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) — A flotilla of Chinese warships carrying the aircraft carrier Fujian conducted the first naval exercise involving combat forces since the carrier entered service, the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA) said Tuesday.
During the exercises, such areas as naval formation navigation, search and rescue operations involving ships and aircraft, as well as the takeoff and landing of carrier-based aircraft were practiced.
During the joint search and rescue operation, ships and aircraft coordinated and collaborated to quickly complete the rescue mission in accordance with the command center's instructions for handling special circumstances. The exercise enhanced the flotilla's emergency response capabilities, the PLA Navy stated.
Various types of carrier-based aircraft, including the J-35, J-15T, J-15DT and KJ-600, conducted training in electromagnetic catapult takeoff and landing on the deck of the aircraft carrier Fujian, the PLA Navy said.
The aircraft carrier Fujian was commissioned on November 5. -0-
