Astana, November 17 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Estonian President Alar Karis arrived in Astana on a state visit from November 17 to 19. On the first day of the visit, the two sides held talks and issued a joint statement, Kazinform reported on Monday, citing the press service of the Kazakh presidential administration (Akorda).
During talks in narrow and expanded formats, the presidents discussed cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, digitalization and artificial intelligence, transport and logistics links, critical minerals, industry, education, and science. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan views Estonia as an important partner in the European Union.
A. Karis noted that Estonia considers Kazakhstan its main economic partner in Central Asia and is ready to facilitate the entry of Kazakh businesses into the EU market. According to Akorda, over 80 Estonian companies operate in Kazakhstan, and Estonia's direct investment volume has exceeded USD 128 million since 2005.
The parties expressed interest in expanding business contacts. The Estonian delegation includes representatives from approximately 40 companies from the logistics, information and communications technology, high technology, cybersecurity, and education sectors. A business forum is planned as part of the visit to discuss the prospects for new joint projects.
Following the talks, the presidents confirmed their readiness to strengthen political and economic partnership and adopted a joint statement. –0–
