Beijing, November 17 (Xinhua) — A think tank conference on smart city governance for a better life opened in Beijing on Sunday. More than 200 experts and city administration representatives from China and abroad attended the event.
The annual conference of megacity management think tanks 2025 /Beijing/ discussed topics such as digital transformation, sustainable development, and improving public services, among others, for a more beautiful future of cities.
The conference was organized by the Xinhua Digital Government Research Center and the Institute of Digital Government and Governance of Tsinghua University.
Speaking at the conference, Fu Hua, Director-General of Xinhua News Agency, said that the country's leader's important remarks on urban work and China's innovative experience in megacity governance not only laid a theoretical paradigm and practical foundation for studying urban governance in China, but also offered important public goods to the world to solve the problems associated with megacity governance.
He said Xinhua News Agency is willing to cooperate with all parties to further deepen research on urban governance and make new and greater contributions to continuously improving the governance capacity of megacities and ensuring that cities better serve people's all-round development.
Beijing Mayor Yin Yong said that Beijing authorities are constantly improving the level and quality of urban governance and providing solutions that meet public needs, striving to transform the capital into a world-class metropolis that is harmonious and livable.
Qiu Yong, Party Secretary of Tsinghua University, emphasized the importance of building an intelligent system for the digital transformation of cities, promoting low-carbon energy transformation for green urban development, and actively creating sustainable and safe cities.
International experts have also praised China's megacity management practices.
Zhu Juwang, Director of the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, noted that Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, are striving to achieve harmony between nature and people in sustainable urban planning and management, offering inspiring examples to the world. -0-
