New Delhi, November 15 (Xinhua) — The death toll from a blast involving confiscated explosives at a police station in Indian-controlled Kashmir has risen to nine, with 32 more injured, local police said.

A powerful explosion rocked the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, late Friday night.

According to regional police chief Nalin Prabhat, nine people were killed and 32 others were injured in the incident. The detonation occurred accidentally while samples of the confiscated explosives were being collected for analysis.

The explosion, which was heard throughout Srinagar, severely damaged the police station and adjacent buildings. Police have ordered an investigation. "The cause of this unfortunate incident is being investigated," said N. Prabhat.

Following the explosion, numerous fire crews and ambulances were urgently dispatched to the police station to extinguish the fire and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.

On Monday, a car bombing near the Red Fort in New Delhi killed eight people instantly and injured 20 more. Local media later reported the death toll at 13.
