JAKARTA, November 14 (Xinhua) — Five Chinese citizens were killed and eight others injured on Friday in a traffic accident in Buleleng district in the northern Indonesian island of Bali, the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar reported, adding that it has activated an emergency response mechanism.
Local police reported that at around 4:30 a.m. local time, a minibus crashed into a tree and rolled down a slope on the Denpasar-Singaraja highway near the village of Gitgit. Indonesian Red Cross personnel, police, and local residents rescued the injured passengers and transported them to nearby hospitals.
According to local police, there were 14 people in the car. The driver was an Indonesian citizen, and all 13 passengers were Chinese citizens.
The Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar reported that it received a police alert early Friday morning and immediately launched an emergency response. It is in close contact with Indonesian authorities to verify casualty reports, establish direct contact with those involved in the accident, and coordinate the work of local volunteer groups providing translation services and other assistance.
The Consulate General stated that it will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities to resolve further issues and will make every effort to provide consular protection and assistance. –0–
