BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) — A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson said Friday that PLA Navy ships will sail wherever necessary to safeguard national interests.
Responding to questions about the selection of Sanya Port as the permanent homeport for the aircraft carrier Fujian, Chinese Ministry of Defense spokesman Jiang Bin stated that Sanya's military port was chosen based on factors such as its hydrological conditions, location, the construction of supporting infrastructure in the surrounding area, and the aircraft carrier's ability to carry out combat training missions at sea.
The aircraft carrier Fujian, China's first aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults, was commissioned earlier this month at the naval port of Sanya in South China's Hainan Province.
Jiang Bin reiterated that China adheres to the path of peaceful development, pursues a defensive defense policy, and the Chinese military is a strong force for safeguarding world peace. -0-
