Freetown, November 14 (Xinhua) — China is ready to work with Sierra Leone to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, strengthen friendship and mutual trust, and enhance mutual support, said Vice Premier Liu Guozhong.
Liu Guozhong, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the announcement during an invitation-only visit to China from November 12 to 14.
During his visit, Liu Guozhong met with Sierra Leone Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh. The two sides held an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and practical cooperation.
Having conveyed to the Vice President warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio, the Vice Premier noted that the two heads of state met twice last year, setting clear guidelines for the further development of bilateral relations. He emphasized that China stands ready to work with Sierra Leone to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and strengthen friendship, mutual trust, and mutual support.
Liu Guozhong called on the two sides to leverage China's zero import tariff policy announced by Xi Jinping to improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperation in various sectors, particularly agriculture and fisheries. Recalling that this year marks the 10th anniversary of China's successful support for the fight against the Ebola epidemic in Africa, he emphasized the need to further deepen cooperation in healthcare to bring greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
As developing countries, China and Sierra Leone should strengthen coordination in international affairs, actively implement the Global Governance Initiative, and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, the Vice Premier added.
M.J. Jalloh, in turn, conveyed sincere greetings from President J.M. Bio to Xi Jinping and warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, political trust between the countries has steadily strengthened, and cooperation has yielded tangible results.
Expressing gratitude to China for its selfless assistance during the Ebola epidemic, M.J. Jalloh emphasized that Sierra Leone will consistently adhere to the one-China principle, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and advance the implementation of the 10 partnership action plans announced at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing to achieve new fruitful results.
During the visit, Liu Guozhong and M.J. Jalloh also attended events commemorating the 10th anniversary of the successful joint fight against Ebola, the opening ceremony of a fishing port built with Chinese support, and a photo exhibition showcasing China-Sierra Leone agricultural cooperation. –0–
