Johannesburg, November 13 (Xinhua) — Seeking opportunities amid crises, the international community is taking steps to promote global governance and expand global leadership capacity, according to a report released Thursday by the Xinhua Think Tank.
As the report, titled “Building a New Kind of Global Leadership Together: Collective Action to Shift to a Fairer and Smarter System of Global Governance,” highlights, the world is currently undergoing an unprecedented stress test of its governance system.
It is noted that multilateral mechanisms accelerate reforms aimed at overcoming global challenges.
The report's authors cite the United Nations as an example, noting that the organization is using reform to break the deadlock, reviving its authority and viability through self-reform to better adapt to the need to transform the global governance system.
At the same time, the report notes, the Global South is strengthening its cohesion, becoming a new strand of global leadership.
“From climate change to international financial rules and the UN reform agenda, the Global South is taking the lead in setting the agenda through collective consultations,” the authors state.
The report also notes that China, as a responsible major power, is a constructive force in a changing world, constantly expanding its global leadership capabilities through its sustainable domestic development, strong external cooperation, and profound civilizational wisdom. –0–
