Beijing, November 13 (Xinhua) — From November 10-11, the Russian Cultural Center (RCC) in Beijing hosted a series of cultural and historical programs dedicated to the development of the history of Russian emigration. These programs were part of a series of cultural and educational events titled "China-Russia: Common Cultural Heritage," timed to coincide with the 2024-2025 China-Russia Years of Culture. This was announced on the RCC's official WeChat account.
Tatyana Urzhumtseva, head of the Russian Catholic Church in Beijing, emphasized the importance of organizing such events as a tool for further strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, including with the Russian diaspora living and working in China.
The event's guests were also greeted by Elena Chernyshkova, Executive Director of the Russian Diaspora Heritage Foundation.
As part of this event, a photo documentary exhibition, "Along Russian Addresses in China," was organized, dedicated to the most significant Russian addresses in the cities of Harbin and Shanghai. It explored the multifaceted life of the Russian diaspora in the first half of the 20th century in these two "emigrant cities" in the East.
The event also featured a screening of the documentary film “Remembering Russian Harbin,” which is based on monologues by Russians who lived in Harbin and presents a mosaic history of the city from its founding in the late 19th century to the 1950s.
As a continuation of the series of events, a concert entitled "Russian Jazz from China" took place on November 11. The audience heard music performed in the 1920s and 1930s at the finest venues in the Chinese cities of Harbin, Shanghai, Beijing, and Qingdao. The concert performances were accompanied by stories from the history of Russian jazz in China.
The events were organized jointly by the RCC in Beijing and the Heritage Foundation of the Russian Diaspora. -0-
