Riyadh, November 12 (Xinhua) — South Africa will send around 250 tour operators to China in December to study the Chinese language and better understand Chinese culture, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille announced on Tuesday.
"China is certainly one of our largest sources of tourists," she told Xinhua on the sidelines of the ongoing first TOURISE forum, which runs until Thursday.
She particularly noted South Africa's simplified visa regime, which allows Chinese citizens to apply through approved tour operators without visiting the embassy in person.
South Africa has conducted several road shows in Chinese provinces and operates daily flights to Beijing, the minister noted.
The two countries have long cooperated in the tourism sector, including implementing initiatives to encourage Chinese tourists to celebrate the New Year in South Africa, she noted.
“We see tourism as a key factor in our economic growth,” said P. de Lille, adding that “there are many similarities between China and South Africa.” –0–
